“Lee is a talented playwright, an inspiring workshop leader and an excellent dramaturg. As one of his tutors, I learnt a lot from him.”
- Katalin Trencsényi, Dramaturg and Theatre Maker (author of Dramaturgy in the Making: A Users’ Guide for Theatre Practitioners, 2015)
I am a writer, dramaturg and teacher with over ten years experience in new play development, artist support and writing for stage, producing work with New Diorama Theatre, The Pleasance, Camden People’s Theatre, Old Red Lion, The Cockpit Theatre and Charing Cross Theatre.
As Literary Associate with award-winning theatre company, Squint, I lead on the development of new plays while also supporting emerging writers through The Squint Playwriting Award programme in partnership with Stratford East Theatre. My collected plays and theatre-making toolkit, Three Plays by Squint and How They Were Made, is published with Bloomsbury and available here.
As Board Member of the Dramaturgs’ Network, I support the learning and development of dramaturgs by working with leading artists and professionals to deliver Q&As, workshops and masterclasses. I have developed partnerships with leading theatres and arts organisations to produce events, build community and deliver fellowship programmes for early-career practitioners.
As a dramaturg, I work collaboratively with writers, directors and devisers to support the development of new plays and adaptations. I have also worked with the Bush Theatre, Park Theatre and Finborough Theatre as a script-reader and led writers’ courses with Arcola Theatre and The Mono Box.
As a teacher, I’ve delivered workshops, masterclasses and courses in writing for stage, dramaturgy and British and European theatre history in universities and drama schools, including University of West London, Guildhall, Birkbeck University of London, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Carneggie Mellon University School of Drama (US).
I’m always interested in meeting new collaborators and supporting emerging artists. If you want to collaborate on a project or find out more, get in touch.
“Lee's dramaturgical input has always been hugely beneficial to me. He has an extensive understanding that goes beyond the conventional three act format. He's passionate about a wide variety of theatrical styles and isn't afraid to dig deep.”
Francis, playwright and former Literary Manager at Finborough Theatre
